NIE consults on distribution code changes

Published:

Consultation opened on . Closing date at 18:00.

Summary

Northern Ireland Electricity Ltd (NIE) is required to prepare a Distribution Code covering, among other things, all material technical aspects relating to connections to and operation and use of the Distribution System which is designed to permit the development, maintenance and operation of an efficient, co-ordinated and economical system for the distribution of electricity.

NIE has opened a second consultation seeking views on proposed changes to the Distribution Code.  The changes relate to the ‘Setting Schedule for Power Stations less than 5MW Exporting on to the NIE System’.

This Setting Schedule is prepared by NIE to further clarify the detailed requirements and process to be followed by a person or party (Generator) wishing to connect a Power Station with a capacity greater than 100kW but less than 5MW on to the NIE system. It explains the process required to manage crucial interactions and data exchange.

The Setting Schedule is made up of two parts :-

* Technical requirements for Power Stations less than 5 MW connecting to the NIE distribution system
* Compliance, test and reporting requirements for Power Stations less than 5 MW connecting to the NIE distribution system
