The Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) and Utility Regulator (The Regulatory Authorities) today publish a Report on  Single Natural Gas Quality Standard for Northern Ireland  and the Republic of Ireland . This report was drawn up by the Gas Quality Industry Group - established by the Regulatory Authorities in August at the request of some members of industry - to examine in more detail the issues raised by the CAG consultation paper on Gas Quality (CER/08/101) and the Bord Gáis Networks proposals (CER/08/102).

Gas quality is a very important issue both in its own right and in the context of facilitating cross-border flows of gas and establishing the Common Arrangements for Gas (CAG) on an all island basis.

The Regulatory Authorities intend coming to a final position on the Bord Gais Network proposals on gas quality in the very near future. The present report will form a key input to that decision.  At this stage, we are minded to accept the recommendations of the report. Before taking this decision, however, interested parties are requested to comment on the report by 5pm Monday 12th January, 2009. Comments should be submitted to Robert O’Rourke (rorourke@cer.ie) and Richard Hume (richard.hume@niaur.gov.uk).
