Summary

On 1 April 2007 the Northern Ireland Authority for Utility Regulation (the Utility Regulator) became the first UK organisation to take responsibility for the regulation of water, gas and electricity. This cross-cutting remit represents a unique opportunity for a single organisation to bring forward a co-ordinated strategy for the protection of vulnerable utility customers in the provision of these essential services.

Today the Utility Regulator announced the launch of a public consultation on the Social Action Plan 2009-2014.

Responses to this consultation are to be received by 21 March 2009.

It is expected that that following this consultation the Utility Regulator will finalise and publish a definitive action plan. It is envisaged that the action plan will cover a five year period and progress will be reviewed after three years.
