Manager and Analyst recruitment

SINGLE ELECTRICITY MARKET ON THE ISLAND OF IRELAND
The Northern Ireland Authority for Energy Regulation (the Authority) wishes to recruit Managers and Analysts to work on the Single Electricity Market project. The Single Electricity Market (SEM) on the island of Ireland is an exciting opportunity to break new ground in European electricity regulation. A major project is now under way which will deliver wholesale electricity trading in Northern Ireland and the Republic through a single market; fundamentally different from legacy arrangements. The project to implement the new market includes market design, transmission harmonisation and preparation to regulate in consumers’ interests. This is one of the most advanced examples of regional integration and so a forerunner for developments across Europe.

You will provide leadership, analysis and policy advice on the design and implementation of the market, during implementation and the early years of the market’s operation. A range of posts are to be filled at Manager and Analyst levels, working on policy areas as diverse as networks, markets, transmission, generation or regulatory and standards issues.

For the Manager posts you will need a minimum of five years’ relevant work experience in the utility / energy sector, or industry knowledge gained in finance, the public sector or consultancy, including at least two years working at an equivalent level to these posts.

For the Analyst posts you will need a minimum of one year relevant work experience in the utility / energy sector, or industry knowledge gained in finance, the public sector or consultancy.

Understanding of economic and legal issues relevant to electricity regulation is necessary for both posts.

The appointments are full time, non civil service and non pensionable posts, based in Belfast. Annual salary is likely to be in the range of £30k - £60k for the Analyst posts and £40k - £70k for the Manager posts, although more may be available in an exceptional case. Benefits include eligibility for a bonus scheme linked to performance criteria and five weeks annual holiday.
NIAER can provide flexible working arrangements and opportunities for training and development in this area of work.
