The Northern Ireland Authority for Energy Regulation today published details of its plans for further opening of the Electricity Market in Northern Ireland. From 1 April 2004, an additional number of non-domestic electricity consumers in Northern Ireland will be able to choose the electricity supplier of their choice. The eligibility threshold, which was previously an expected normal annual consumption of electricity of no less than 0.79 gigawatt hours, will be reduced to 500MWh or greater. Further stages of market opening for non-domestic customers, according to consumption band, will take place later in 2004 and early 2005. In order to facilitate this next stage of market opening Ofreg will make the details of such eligible customers available to licensed suppliers on request.
