Today the UR publishes its ‘Price Control for SSE Airtricity Gas Supply (NI) Ltd 2020-2022’ consultation. This document sets out the UR’s consultation proposals for the price control for SSE Airtricity in the Greater Belfast and West gas supply markets.
The proposed SSE Airtricity control will come into effect on 1 April 2020 and will run until 31 March 2023.
The principal objective of the Utility Regulator in relation to gas is “to promote the development and maintenance of an efficient, economic and co-ordinated gas industry in Northern Ireland” while having regard to “the need to ensure a high level of protection of consumers of gas”. To help meet this objective we retain price controls on dominant, former monopoly, gas suppliers. This consultation sets out our proposed decisions for the price control for SSE Airtricity Gas Supply (NI) Ltd (SSE Airtricity) in the Greater Belfast and West areas.
The price control will establish the permitted costs and profit margin for the duration of the control period. Subsequent regulated tariffs will have to operate within these limits. The price control decisions will therefore impact on the bills of price regulated customers, ensuring that customers only pay for the cost of the gas they receive and a fair profit margin.
This consultation follows our Supply Price Control Information Note published in November 2018.
