Update following mid year review of Gas Transmission Tariffs

The Utility Regulator is issuing a Notice to revise the Gas Transmission Tariff forecasts and issue a new tariff, which will result in an approximate 35% reduction for the rest of the gas year.

A mid-year review of the Gas Transmission Tariff, for the current gas year (October 2024 – September 2025) identified a substantial over recovery.

This is mainly due to the damage caused by Storm Darragh to Ballylumford Power Station, which caused a change in gas capacity bookings.

The above circumstance is classed as an unforeseen event, which has an impact in relation to the ‘gas year’.

Therefore, we are issuing a notice under Licence Condition 2A.2.5.6 to the following Gas Transmission Operators in Northern Ireland:

•           Belfast Gas Transmission Limited (BGTL);

•           Premier Transmission Limited (PTL);

•           West Transmission Limited (WTL); and

•           GNI (UK) Limited (GNI (UK)).

This will enable the Gas Market Operator for Northern Ireland (GMO NI) to calculate and implement a change in the Gas Transmission Tariff  from 1 April 2025 until the end of the gas year. The Gas Transmission Tariff accounts for around 10% of a customer’s overall gas tariff.

We understand that GMO NI will publish the new tariff on its website and contact shippers directly.
