Utility Regulator announces appointment of new Chief Executive

The Utility Regulator today announces the appointment of Shane Lynch as its new Chief Executive

Before joining the Utility Regulator as Director for Electricity in 2009, Shane Lynch had worked in the electricity industry within Northern Ireland for 27 years. During that time he worked for both NIE and the AES Corporation. He worked for 17 years at AES, where he was Managing Director of Kilroot Power Station and was latterly Development Director for Ireland.

Making the announcement, Professor Peter Matthews, Chairman of the Utility Regulator board, said:

“We are delighted to appoint Shane Lynch as our new Chief Executive following an open competition, which attracted a high calibre field.”

“Shane brings considerable commercial and management skills, and significant experience of economic regulation.  He has already made a major impact as Director of Electricity at the Utility Regulator and he will provide leadership to the independent regulator of the energy and water industries in Northern Ireland.”

Shane Lynch said:

“I am very excited to be given the opportunity to lead the Utility Regulator. I would like to pay tribute to my predecessor, Iain Osborne, for all his work in leading and developing an organisation that is widely respected for its independent expert role, and the significant achievements that it has delivered on behalf of consumers.

“The Utility Regulator’s role is to protect the interests of consumers, whilst ensuring that sustainable utilities are maintained as part of the Northern Ireland economy. I look forward to delivering this challenge.”
