Commenting on a pricing announcement by firmus energy today, a spokesman for the Utility Regulator said:
“While the Utility Regulator does not formally approve firmus energy’s supply tariff, the company consults with us on its tariff proposals. We welcome firmus’ announcement to reduce the tariff for the domestic and small industrial and commercial sectors, maintaining the competitive advantage of gas.”
Note:
(1) firmus energy are incentivised through the Utility Regulator’s distribution price control to gain volumes in order to pay for the development of the new network. There is therefore no supply price control on firmus as they have to price competitively with other sources of energy (eg oil) in order to gain the necessary volumes.
