OFREG today published a consultation paper which presents proposals for changing the charging policy for electricity connections.

The paper “Proposals for a Change in NIE’s Charges for New Connections” was produced following a request from Northern Ireland Electricity for OFREG to approve a change to the connection charge policy. It details the existing and proposed policies and looks at the impact on customers of the proposed changes and the implications for individual bills.

Commenting, Electricity Regulator, Douglas McIldoon, said:

“The fairest and most economically efficient connection charging policy may combine elements of change and continuity. Ideally we should be seeking an outcome which reduces total electricity costs and leads to greater efficiencies and savings which can be shared.”

Comments on the proposals contained in the paper are sought by 10 August 2001 and responses should be made to Seamus O’Hare at OFREG or via e-mail: seamus.ohare@ofregni.gov.uk
