THE MEASURING INSTRUMENTS DIRECTIVE (MID)
The Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) covers a number of specific measuring instruments which includes electricity and gas. The UK is required to implement the Directive by 30 0ctober 2006.
The primary objective of the MID is to create single market for the benefit of manufacturers and, ultimately, consumers across Europe.
Changes in the approach to meter provision, management, maintenance and legal metrology are about to confront the energy market. With this in mind the electricity and gas regulatory authorities in conjunction with ELEXON are keen to ensure proper implementation that will give confidence to consumers, regulators and the supply industry that supplied gas and electricity is measured accurately.
To this end the regulatory authorities and ELEXON are shortly hosting a free joint seminar, details of which are available on http://www.elexon.co.uk/AboutElexon/Events/Registration.aspx. The seminar is aimed at:
-energy suppliers
-gas meter asset managers
-electricity meter operators
-meter asset providers
-network operators
-gas transporters and;
-consumers.
The seminar will cover the following themes;
-impact of the MID - background, scope implementation, approach to gas and electricity meters
-gas asset manager’s experience
-approach to gas meter accuracy
-approach to electricity meter accuracy
-the way forward -the drivers, transparency, governance, structures, aims and objectives.
The seminar is free and is on a first come, first serve basis.
