One of the Utility Regulator’s statutory functions is to keep the development of the retail energy sector in Northern Ireland under review.
An important aspect of this is collecting information on the sector. We monitor the retail energy market by collecting, analysing and publishing some key basic market information, in relation to market share, switching information and price comparisons.
We also more broadly use this information to understand more about the progress and impact of supply competition, build knowledge for regulatory decisions, comply with EU Third Package mandatory requirements on market monitoring, allow other interested stakeholders to understand more readily the activity within our energy markets, and to help promote the interests of consumers.
We are publishing here a series of Quarterly Transparency Reports which provide a range and information about the retail energy market in Northern Ireland. The data included in these reports come mainly from the network companies and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). Some tables/charts also contain specific inputs from the suppliers.
We also publish a series of annual reports that give broader information on energy and retail related issues.
We aim to gradually increase the extent of the information published in these reports. Therefore, we would welcome comments on the contents/structure of these series of reports. Please send comments or suggestions to:
