Decision published on implementing changes to the NI gas transmission charging regime

Today we publish our decision to implement changes to the NI gas transmission charging regime. This follows a consultation published in June 2018. These changes are required to implement an EU Regulation on establishing a network code on harmonised transmission tariff structures for gas, by 31 May 2019.

It is our view that the NI postalised tariff regime largely complies with the requirements. We have decided it is necessary to adjust the capacity commodity split. This determines how transmission revenue is allocated between a charge for the use of the pipeline and a charge for the units of gas which pass through the pipeline. It will be adjusted, over a three-year transition period, to 95:5 from October 2021.

The responses to the consultation were published on 11 October 2018 and the Agency for the Cooperation of Economic Regulators’ conclusion of its analysis on the consultation paper is available here.

Copies of the decision can be made available in large print, Braille, audio cassette and a variety of minority languages if required. Please contact Jillian Ferris on 028 9031 1575 or email: Gas_networks_responses@uregni.gov.uk with cc to jillian.ferris@uregni.gov.uk to request this.
