Latest Utility Regulator newsletter published

We have published our latest newsletter which provides an update on our work during February.

The past month has been an eventful one for us all here at the Utility Regulator. We attended and exchanged knowledge at industry events and also engaged with our key stakeholders by launching consultations and hosting our own roundtable discussion.

In early February, our Chief Executive, John French attended South East Water’s 2025 Annual Vulnerability Stakeholder Conference, which was held in partnership with Collaboration Network in London. John also attended the Irish Renewable Gas Conference in Dublin.

We published our decision paper on licence modifications to NIE Networks' Transmission and Distribution Licences.

We announced a formal review of the regulated gas tariffs for SSE Airtricity Gas Supply (in the Greater Belfast and West areas) and Firmus Energy (Ten Towns area). We expect that the reviews will conclude by late February, with announcements to follow soon after.

We also published a consultation on a two-year extension to the current SONI Price Control (SRP20).

Further to this, we published a consultation paper to seek views on a proposed solution for how electricity suppliers and NIE Networks treat premises that are deemed vacant for a short period of time.

In this month’s newsletter, we’re spotlighting the staff who have undertaken our Student Placement – Associate Regulatory Analyst, Luke Matchett and our current Student Placement, Tola Lally.
