A spokesperson for the Utility Regulator said:
“Following the severe weather conditions of March 30, which affected electricity supply to almost 140,000 customers, the Utility Regulator has accepted an exemption request by NIE plc from their Guaranteed and Overall Standards of Service. Similar exemptions have been granted in previous instances of severe weather.
“The purpose of these standards is to ensure that NIE plc provides good service to customers under normal conditions, not to deal with exceptional conditions, such as the recent ice storm.
“Following our discussions with NIE plc, we welcome the company’s decision to make goodwill payments to some customers affected, and to the voluntary groups that provided assistance during the storm.”
