Notice of proposal to modify all gas supply and gas conveyance licences

Today the Utility Regulator publishes its consultation and associated notice which propose to introduce new gas Supplier of Last Resort (SoLR) licence conditions across all gas supply and conveyance licences.

SoLR is an important consumer protection measure in the unlikely event that a current supplier has their licence revoked and a SoLR event is initiated. A similar process exists in electricity.

The proposed modifications will:

  • Introduce a requirement for all gas conveyance and gas supply licence holders to comply with the established SoLR arrangements should a SoLR event materialise; and
  • Ensure domestic and business gas customers maintain a continuity of supply should a SoLR event happen.

These industry arrangements are necessary to clarify the requirements and the process for all industry participants should a SoLR event be initiated.

An information paper outlining the process and agreed industry arrangements is available here.

Any representations or objections with respect to the proposed modifications may be made on or before noon on 16 May 2018. Responses should be sent to:
