Today the UR publishes its decision paper on the treatment of electricity customer credit balances in the event of a Supplier of Last Resort having to take the customers of a failed supplier. This decision outlines the scope and coverage of the protection that customers of a failed electricity supplier can expect, and also the methodology for funding the cost of that protection. In summary domestic customers of the failed supplier will be fully reimbursed for any credit they had on their account with the failed supplier or any deposit that was held.
This decision follows the consultation paper published in May. The responses to the consultation are also published here. The scope of this decision paper relates to electricity only. Gas SOLR arrangements are being developed and will be finalised in 2018.
